Book Review – Everyday clothes for girls

September 21, 2012

Today’s book review is “a sunny spot 女の子のまいにちの服(Heart warming life series, or Everyday clothes for girls. This book is relatively new as it was only published this year in April, I’ve already used two patterns for this book, and there are still a couple more on my sewing list.

An overview of the contents page. The 3 dresses/tunic below are for Mom! 😛
The sizes included are for 90-140cm, and free size for Mom.

What I like about the clothes are that almost all of them have gathers. (Girls love that) and they are all wearable on a daily basis.

I love the simplicity of the designs, and the extra design details at the back.

Any dress with a big skirt will be a big hit with my girls. I might have to make this next.

This is a very cute tunic, with a nice twirly shape!

I made this!

Blouse that I made using the pattern above.

Square neck tunic, lovely in seersucker fabric.

Added bow-tie detail at the back.

Another pattern that I used.

Smock blouse in cotton linen using pattern from above.

Love the gathers and the puffy sleeves. Brown is a color I wouldn’t pick out while buying fabrics for the kids. But doesn’t it look great on a little girl? I have been buying more solid colors lately, as I find that cutesy prints tend to get stashed away for ages as they never look quite right for clothes.

This is a knit blouse with a bow detail at the back, skirt pattern not included.

Something warmer and great for the cooler days ahead. This is a ボーダー “border” (meaning horizontal stripes) knit coat. The hood is not part of the coat by the way.

Fur tippet and Balloon pants.

Like this dress from the front cover? You can make a an adult version too.
The book includes 3 matching dresses for Mummy!

Size chart for kids (first column on left – Size, Height, Bust, Waist, Hip)
The 3 adult size projects are all free size.

There is one sewing lesson with full step by step pictures.

Some basic sewing techniques, but the quality of the images here are not so good.

The how-to-makes are entirely in diagrams.

A close up of the diagrams.

I’ll add my interest to this book as well. Any clues on where to find any of the patterns translated? I love the collared blouse, the square necked tunic, and the smock blouse. Just to name a few. 🙂

Thanks for a great website! Awesome information.
