Japanese Fabrics

Japanese Fabrics – Yuwa Floral Fabrics

October 31, 2012

Here is the post on Yuwa floral fabrics as promised! YUWA【有輪商店】is a fabric manufacturer from Japan and I love their floral fabrics especially the linen range. Everytime I get the chance to go fabric shopping in Japan, I will spend a lot of time standing in front of the display trying to decide which one to get because they are not cheap.

I bought this from Kanariya in Sapporo in June. I really love the gray color, and the little accents of pink and yellows. I wanted to make a bag with it at first, but as the linen is a little soft, I thought it might look too shabby. Then a few weeks ago I wanted to make a wallet from my new More! Handmade Wallets book, and I thought this would be perfect!

The pattern called for very thick interfacing, so it didn’t matter if the fabric was soft. It’s so sweet isn’t it? It is kind of large for a wallet, but I’ve gotten used to carrying it around and everytime I take it out I feel so happy seeing the fabric. 🙂

Another fabric I bought in June. This is also a linen, or was it a cotton linen blend, I can’t quite remember. It was from the cut fabrics bin, but 0.5m costs 997Yen!!! So it’s not quite a bargain bin. Pretty expensive but so sweet! I wanted to make hats for my girls, but everytime I take it out I can’t bear to cut it up. So it’s still in the stash. 😛

YUWA has many designers working for them, so they are constantly producing new floral lines every season. Here are some interesting ones that I found and like. If you search YUWA floral fabrics, you should be able to find many online shops that stock YUWA floral fabrics.

This is a border print. Very interesting because you can cut it up into different co-ordinating pieces for small items like wallets and pouches, or use larger pieces combining different prints for a bag.

The fabrics come in laminated versions as well.

Other than the pastel florals, they come in darker colors as well.

    Hi

I am from Indonesia and obsessed with Japanese fabrics. I am now looking for the YUWA manufacturer’s sales person contact. I am starting a project using Japanese fabrics and would be great if I can get direct contact to the manufacturer instead of retailer.
If you happen to have one, I really appreciate it if you can share it with me. Thank you, Anne.

Hi Anne, I don’t have the contact to the manufacturers. Maybe you can try emailing them? This is their website http://yuwafabrics.e-biss.jp/indexpc.php
