Book Review – Daily Comfortable Clothes

June 29, 2012

This week’s book review is from a book I bought on my recent trip. It’s not a new book judging by it’s published date (Feb 2012). The title of the book is 毎日の心地よい服  by  櫻井悦子 (Etsuko Sakurai).

I love the mood of the photographs in this book. Everything has a light and airy feel to it.
Very dreamy… There are also illustrations superimposed on the photographs on some of the pages.

The projects in this book are divided by seasons. Spring/Summer and Autumn/Winter.

I love the design of this peach color dress, but it’s not quite the color for me 😉 Maybe in navy?

This is another of my favourites. It looks almost the same as the other one but on a closer look, this one has a mandarin collar and an actual waistline with a gathered skirt. The other one has collars, longer puff sleeves and more of a straight cut.

Tops great for summer! Bow and pleat details on the front of this top.

Lovely ruffled white top! Think i will make this one first if I can get hold of some nice white double gauze.

Autumn/Winter designs.

This is definitely an all-year-round skirt. So pretty! Both exterior and lining fabrics are double gauze fabrics. The upper part of the skirt is sewn using shirring elastic.

Wool coat.

Another nice double gauze dress. Love the ruffle and ribbon detail on the collar. Very girly!

As you can tell from the projects, most of them are not very simple pieces. Lots of details on each design. There are, unfortunately, no step by step photographs. In fact, the instructions look like this…

The usual pattern, materials, and how-to-make in point form. There are accompanying diagrams but only for the more complicated steps. Simple steps like sewing up side seams or hemming are mentioned in the how-to-make point forms so some degree of guesswork is required. Techniques that were used in other designs are referred to by the page numbers. Basically, it is not the simplest book to use for a beginner but with lots of very pretty and inspiring ideas even if you don’t end up making anything from it 😉 It was one of those books I had to have in my collection.

Hi Yuanita, I bought it from Japan, but it should be available online. Have you tried keying in the ISBN number in a search engine? It will help you find the shops that are selling the book.

After the main course has been served, the party should begin
winding down and everyone will be ok without food for
the next hour or so. (This is the power of anger.
    ifs.
